 OPEN DOOR BIBLE CHURCH

Events and Happenings

We hope you will tune in here quite often to check out what is going on at Open Door church.  We plan different functions all during the year.  Some are fundraisers for our building fund and some are just for fellowship as strive to get to know other fellow members and friends better.

Call Pastor Jack for info:  Cell:  336-595-6848    Home: 336-705-6615

July 4th was another special day for us at Open Door Church.  We entered a "float" in the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department's annual parade.  There are hot dogs and soft drinks at the end, and a special fireworks demonstration.  We decorated a truck and trailer, added seats to it for us to sit, and we passed out "sandwich" bags along the route that contained some church advertising as well as candy for the kids.  It was not as hot as past days had been which made for a fairly comfortable ride.  Many of our folks showed up for this event was glad we could take part in it.  We need to get our name out as much as possible to let people know where we are meeting.

Check out our Photo page for some pictures.

Sunday July 19th we are planning a baptismal service...this will be our first and we are excited.  Since we do not have a baptistery, Pastor Jack called Pastor Bill Marr at Northridge Baptist in Rural Hall to see if we could use their facilities.  Bill invited Pastor Jack and all of our church to come to their church that Sunday night and join with them for the Sunday night service and baptism.  He asked Pastor Jack to preach the service and then we will have the baptism service.  We have one candidate and they have one.

So...mark your calendar...Sunday, July 19th at 7 PM at Northridge Baptist Church, Ketner Farm Road, in Rural Hall.

At our last business meeting we voted to accept our proposed constitution and bylaws, and elected officers to serve until the end of this year, thus the church was "constituted" on Sunday, July 12, 2009.

We elected an Advisory Board, and  one Deacon, to serve with the Pastor in the operation of our church.  So, that was a mile-stone as well.

Now we will ordain our Deacon on Sunday August 2, 2009 in the 6 PM service.  And so, another mile stone will be reached.  After the service we will enjoy a time of light refreshments and fellowship.

Saturday, August 1 at 8:30 AM...how about join us for an old fashioned church work day?   I know, it does not sound like much fun, does it?   However, there are some things we need to accomplish and the way to do it is to roll up the sleeves and get going!  We have some theater seats to move to storage, some to replace, some pews to bring in and install, so repairs to do,  more painting to get at...man it never seems to end.  However, that is the way it is, and we continue to try to improve the appearance of our meeting place because we want it to look nice for the Lord and inviting to those who come to worship with us.  So...if you really, really want to help the Lord in some way, and don't know how or where...may I invite you to come and lend us a hand???  I am sure the Lord will bless you for the effort!

Sunday evening August 2, 2009 we met at the church for our "first" evening service here at the "Opry House".  We are slowly but surely adding some "milestones" to our journey as Open Door Bible Church.  Not only did we meet for a service, but the service itself was yet another "milestone" for us as we ordained and installed our first deacon, Ray Eddy.  It was a great service as we all gave praise and glory to the Lord as He has brought us thus far and the journey is by faith, and that faith is in our Lord.  After the service we enjoyed a fellowship meal together.  Please see our Photo Gallery page for a few pictures of that event.

Sunday August 30th is a fifth Sunday night.  We are planning a special gospel singing to take place at our church.  We are still meeting at the facilities of Turner's Opry House, which is the old Pollirosa Restaurant.  Many of you are familiar with that since it was open for so many years.

We plan to meet at the church location Sunday evening at 6 PM.  The group has not yet been selected, but keep watching our page for that information, or call Pastor Jack.

Update:  While our plan was to have a special group to provide our singing for us, we were not able to make that come together...So...we have enough talent in the church that we can minister in song from "in house".  We invite you to come join us for an evening of praise and worship.

Another event to plan for:  Church yard sale!  This event is to help us to provide funds for several mission endeavors at Open Door Church.  We invite you to help us by (1) donating your unwanted items to us to sell and then (2) come and browse the tables to see what you may want or need.  It makes for a win-win situation!  The date is planned for Saturday September 26, from 7 AM until about 2 PM.  Come and help us out!!!

PLEASE NOTE!!!!!  THE YARD SALE WILL BE AT OUR NEW LOCATION, 6538 UNIVERSITY PARKWAY, RURAL HALL, NC.  THIS IS BETWEEN THE QUALITY MART AND RURAL HALL LIBRARY, NORTH OF SAM'S CLUB.

ALAS!!!  ALAS!!!   ALAS!!!

We have had to reschedule our yard sale from:   Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 7 AM

To:       Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 7 AM.

Please update your calendar and plan to come be with us!!!  This is a fund raiser for our building projects...And if you have any items to donate we would appreciate that very much.  Call Pastor Jack to make arrangements.

UPDATE:      We decided to have our yard sale on Friday AND Saturday...and we are really glad we did...Friday was a good day with lots of traffic...the two days together were a good boost to our building fund...we are thankful to the Lord for allowing this good sale.

HOT OFF THE PRESS!!!  We have decided to have a "pre" chicken stew chicken stew!!!  That is, right after our yard sale, we are having an "early bird" chicken stew at the home of Ronnie Starbuck...This one is free!!!  We want you to come and get acquainted with us...Bring your bowl...crackers...spoon...desserts...and a friend...and join us for "supper".  Call Pastor Jack (contact page) for information.

This is still on tap for Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 5 PM...come rain or shine!!!

You already know it rained on this day, for we re-scheduled our yard sale...but not the chicken stew.  The rain held off a little, but we were under the shelter of Ronnie's big car port.  About 50 or so people braved it and came out.  The stew was good and so was the fellowship.  Lots of desserts were available.

The next "big" item on our calendar takes place on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 5 PM...and that is our annual "Chicken Stew".  Believe me we look forward to this event!  Our cook is Ronnie Starbuck, who has been "cooking chicken" for some 20 years...and may I say he does a fantastic job...you will certainly enjoy it if you come.

The meal includes Chicken Stew, Dessert and coffee or soft drink.  The cost is only $7.00 and is for the benefit of the various mission projects of our church.  Be on the lookout for one of our "flyers" or small business cards which has a discount coupon good for $1.00 off the cost of the meal.    Mark your calendar and come on down.

THIS IS A FUND RAISER FOR US, AND WILL TAKE PLACE AT OUR NEW LOCATION; 6538 UNIVERSITY PARKWAY, RURAL HALL, NC.  IT IS BETWEEN THE QUALITY MART AND RURAL HALL LIBRARY, NORTH OF SAM'S CLUB.  COME...BRING A FRIEND!!!  WE PLAN TO HAVE "REGULAR" AND OF COURSE "HOT".

NOTE:  RAIN DATE IS SET FOR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH AT 5 PM!!!!

***UPDATE***

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?  FRIDAY AND SATURDAY'S FORECAST WAS FOR RAIN...THEN AS WE GOT CLOSER TO SATURDAY, THE FORECAST BEGIN TO LOOK BETTER FOR SATURDAY!!!  SO FRIDAY NIGHT WE DECIDED TO GO FOR IT ON SATURDAY...AND WE DID.   THE LORD WAS GOOD AND THE RAIN STOPPED AROUND NOON.  WE WERE ALREADY COOKING CHICKEN UNDER A TENT...BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A WONDERFUL DAY FOR A CHICKEN STEW.

MANY OTHER CHURCHES WERE HAVING CHICKEN STEWS ALSO, AND WHILE WE DID NOT DO AS GOOD AS WE HAD HOPED, THE LORD BLESSED AND WE HAD A GOOD TIME ANYWAY.

SUNDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 1, WE ARE MEETING TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE YEAR AHEAD AND START PLANNING OUR EVENTS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE.  MUCH PRAYER IS NEEDED AS WE DON'T WANT TO GET AHEAD OF THE LORD IN THESE VENTURES.

WE PRAISE HIM FOR PROSPERING THE WORK OF OUR HANDS THUS FAR AND GIVING US INSIGHT AND WISDOM.

**  Sunday November 8, 2009, we had the joy of baptizing yet another person and adding to our membership.  Dylan Cecile reached two milestones...(1) he celebrated his 13th birthday, and of course, (2) was baptized.  Rev. Bill Marr allowed us to use their baptistery (again) for this special occasion, and Brother Bill asked our Pastor to preach for him as well.  We enjoyed a wonderful time in the Lord.  Thank you Lord for your blessings upon us!

** We had planned for a special singing on Sunday night November 29, 2009 as it is another fifth Sunday.  However, we were able to add another Deacon to our board, and we are now planning a special ordination service for our brother David Cecile.  It would please us very much if you would consider coming to celebrate with us on this yet another special occasion.  It is exciting to see the Lord work in our midst!

As always, call Pastor Jack for information.

A special time for our church family is planned for Saturday December 12, 2009, at 6 PM at the home of Ronnie and Debbie Starbuck.  It is our annual Christmas Dinner!  You do not have to be a member of our church to attend this event.  All our friends and neighbors are invited that would like to come to this celebration.  Meats will be provided by one of our church families and consist of ham and deer meat.  We will all bring covered dishes with the trimmings and desserts, and of course there will be coffee and soft drinks a-plenty!  We are looking forward to this special treat...and we really would like for you to join in with us.  Call Pastor Jack for details and / or directions.

      EXTRA!!    FLASH!!

We have moved!!! Our new location is 6538 University Parkway, Rural Hall, NC. 27045.  Our mailing address is; PO Box 130, Rural Hall, NC 27045.

We are working hard to complete the renovations to our building.  We had our first service there Sunday September 13, 2009.  What a blessing it was and we look forward to getting the carpet down and the painting and fixing up done.  Praise the Lord for His wonderful grace toward us.  He has provided the building...the paint...the carpet...the siding...sheet rock...and other building materials.  Not only that, but He has moved upon the hearts of the people to want to help...and help they have!!  It has been a long time since I have seen such willingness to get involved in the hammer-and-nails end of the renovation project.  Praise the Lord for His kindness and goodness towards us.

Say...how about you??  Do you have a regular church home?  Yes?  Then be thankful, roll up your sleeves and begin to labor for the Lord.  No?  Then my friend you are in luck!!  We have just the place for you.  A place where the folks will love you, welcome you, and take you right into their hearts and lives.  Don't miss another week...this coming Sunday, come to our house and let us praise the name of the Lord together.

On August 2, 2009, we ordained our first Deacon, Ray Eddy.  Now we have reached another mile-stone in our journey as Open Door Bible Church.  Sunday night, November 29, 2009, it was our great privilege to ordain our SECOND Deacon into service, David Cecile.  David's grandfather, J. W. Hege, who has served as a Deacon for over 60 years in his church, was able to participate in the service with us for the "laying on of hands" and prayer, as we thrust David out into the ministry.

It is with great excitement that we observe the Lord working in our midst to prepare us for His ministry.
